Xavier has been a member of the IDTA since 1976 and holds an adjudicating license from the World Dance and Dancesport Council. He is a current member of the International Association for Dance Medicine and Science. working with dance professionals in evaluating performance technique and rehabilitation after injury. He has choreographed both amateur and professional dancers for dance festivals, community arts projects and cultural heritage programmes, as well as having taught for franchised and independent dance studios in the USA. He provides professional training for those who wish to pursue a career teaching tango. Joanna and Xavier have run Argentine Tango workshops in London, Yokohama, Boston, Chicago and most recently in Norfolk, England where they have now settled. They have worked alongside practitioners from theatre and social dance backgrounds, such as Joanna has a background in movement and physical theatre, receiving her MA in Performance Theory in 1995. She is an Associate member of the IDTA as well as a British Dance Council Adjudicator. She is currently under taking research in the Anthropology of Dance at Roehampton University with Professor Andrée Grau. She cites Pupy Castello "Figures are easy:walking is hard" as her primary tango influence, with a little bit of Twyla Tharp and Pina Bausch thrown in for good measure. |
